About Oakland Ski Club
The Oakland Ski Club (OSC) is an all-season, outdoor-oriented club whose purpose is making snow sports and other activities both available and affordable. OSC owns and operates the Donner Summit lodge located in Soda Springs, CA, just below the gondola at Sugar Bowl ski area. The rustically-elegant three-story lodge houses 40 beds in 10 private rooms. Central heating is augmented by a large stone fireplace in the great room and dining area. Large plate-glass windows provide views of Mt. Lincoln, Mt. Disney and the surrounding forest. A recreation room with ping pong and a dedicated movie TV provides space for children and teens, while the Polar Club room is a great adult space for late night poker games or an additional sleeping area. A resident caretaker provides weekend meals from December through March. The lodge is accessible year-round via a county road that is plowed in the winter. Historically, winter access to the lodge was on a hike-in basis.The Club is comprised of families, couples and singles that are physically active and enjoy socializing. Winter activities include skiing – both downhill, and cross-country – along with snowshoeing, snowboarding and other snow play. Summer activities include lodge work parties, hiking, bicycling, and taking advantage of the many lakes and waterways in the area. Additionally there are social activities, such as a Holiday Party and the Summer Swim Party. General membership meetings are often combined with social events. OSC had its origins in Oakland in 1938. Membership is open to anyone. Members reside in the extended Bay Area counties of Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Sonoma, San Francisco, San Mateo, Solano, Yolo, Monterey and Santa Cruz, with inactive members nationwide.

OSC owns and operates the Donner Summit lodge located in Soda Springs, CA, just below the gondola at Sugar Bowl. OSC had its origins in Oakland in 1938. Today members are from the extended Bay Area counties of Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Sonoma, San Francisco, San Mateo, Solano, Yolo, Monterey and Santa Cruz, with inactive members nationwide. Ski areas close by and favored by members are Sugar Bowl, Donner Ski Ranch, Royal Gorge, Boreal Ridge, Squaw Valley, Alpine Valley and Northstar.Meetings

Applications for Regular Membership are made by single adults for themselves and their children. Applicants are required to experience 2 winter lodge visits OR 1 winter lodge visit and 2 social events before their application is considered for membership by the club’s Board of Directors. Children participate as Junior Members. Children under 4 (by June 1) are not allowed at the lodge during the winter months. Once an adult has been accepted to the membership, his or her spouse or partner may be considered for membership after a winter lodge visit. One time Initiation Fees: Adult $200, Children under 18 - $100 Annual Dues (June through May): $110 Adults, $50 Children under 18, $60 College Students (18-25) Plowing assessment per family: $100/year The lodge is not handicap accessible. Members’ responsibilities: Observe and keep all lodge rules. Share routine chores as assigned to lodgers. Attend a summer work party. Participate in general governance of the club.Trips & Events
The club’s predominant interest is to provide a friendly, comfortable lodge for members and their guests to use as second home in the mountains.OSC, as a member of the Bay Area Snow Sports Council (BAC) and the Far West Ski Association (FWSA), participates in their organized and sponsored trips.
Social events occur seasonally 4 times a year in conjunction with General Membership Meetings and include: a Summer Swim Party, a Holiday Party, a thematic party at the lodge, a May Installation Brunch of New Club Officers.
