About Austin Skiers

Skiing is our main business, and fun is the outcome. Austin Skiers offers a variety of opportunities for singles, couples, families, ages galore, to interact and share common interests. Many of our trips are specifically geared for family fun.

From its beginning in 1970, Austin Skiers has continued to exist as a non-profit organization. Volunteers run the Club, plan the trips, and spend significant time to bring you the best ski/winter trips your money can buy. We’ve skied on five continents, at dozens of the world’s most famous and fabulous resorts—and more cheaply than normal! Ever wanted to ski Austria? Italy? France? Even New Zealand? We’ve been there. How about closer to home: Whistler, Tahoe, Aspen, Lake Louise, Sun Valley, Breckenridge, Snowbird, Jackson Hole—on and on; if you want to go there, chances are we do, too!

Austin Skiers is a great place to make friends and experience some of the greatest skiing and snowboarding trips you can imagine. Each year, our non-profit social club goes on about 7 winter trips and one summer trip to fabulous destinations in the US and abroad. The cost of these trips is low since we are non-profit and because of our size and our participation in the Texas Ski Council. We are an active social group with weekly happy hours, monthly meetings, and numerous other activities like wine-tastings, bicycle rides, parties, and other events.

Area Served

Austin Skiers serves the Central Texas area around Austin. Our members are primarily from Austin, but we have a large number of members from the surrounding cities of Round Rock, Pflugerville, Marble Falls, Cedar Park, Bastrop, Buda, and others. Interestingly, Austin Skiers also has a number of members from far away places such as Detroit, Seattle, and Colorado.

Meetings

Austin Skiers Monthly Membership Meetings are held on the 2nd Tuesday of the month from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. They’re held in a variety of Austin locations; for example, hotels, community centers, and retail stores (wherever winter sports are being talked about!). Meetings usually begin with a social hour, followed by a program relevant to skiing, boarding, fitness, or other sports or activities. These programs can be lectures, equipment demos, discussions, and other neat discourses on the subject. Anyone can attend, and you can join the club during these meetings, too!

In addition, we have weekly happy hours each Thursday from 5:00PM - 7:00PM at various locations around Austin. Austin Skiers has lots of social activities going on all the time. For more information, visit the Austin Skiers web site at www.austinskiers.org.

Memberships

Interested in joining? We hope so! It’s not hard to do. Fill out the membership application that you can download from our website. You must be either an adult or a family member of an adult member. Membership is $35 for a single member, or $45 for family membership (immediate family, spouse or significant other). Membership is renewed each June 1. Remember, only paid members can particpate in our trips. Want more information? Opt in for our free email newsletter--you don't have to be a member--or download our trip brochure, both at our web page.

Trips & Events

Austin Skiers organizes about 7 week long winter trips each year, usually beginning in January and running through late March or early April. In addition, we occassionally put on summer trips to non-ski destinations. For more information about our trips, visit the Austin Skiers web site.

Trips are usually all-inclusive, with air, ground transportation, and lodging in the deal (lifts usually extra). We also offer special optional excursions on some trips, which include tours of famous cities or sites and special activities. Trips usually run about seven days, with occasional shorter, concurrent 3-4 day options on some trips. When choosing potential resorts, we try to include a variety of terrain, night life, optional activities, and local flavor. We also listen to our members – we take a yearly survey of where they would most like to go—and we usually schedule it sooner rather than later!
