About Alaska Heliskiing
The Chilkat Valley in Haines Alaska is unique because it stretches across many miles of mountainous terrain. Skiable terrain begins at saltwater and ends at the Canadian border 40 miles up valley and away from salt water. This creates 5 different micro climates in the region which provide many different heliskiing options for weather, snow, wind events, and avalanche conditions. We can always find the goods somewhere in the the region and the sun pops out somewhere just about every day. The other great thing about Haines is that there are so many big mountains stacked on top of each other and the terrain is endless. The image of Alaska is that there is only radical mountains and descents to be had. In Haines there is terrain for every level of skier and boarder from beginner to expert. My children learned to ski and snowboard by helicopter before ever riding a chair lift! At any rate, the mountains in Haines are world class, just ask a pro who's been here Film and magazine crews make the majority of tracks down the legendary runs in Haines, Alaska. Our base of operations is a melting pot of professional skiers and snowboarders and free skiers and boarders that find there way to haines are heliskiing with their favorite pros! Professional Snowboarder Tom Burt is one of the lead guides and the entire staff is highly trained and very professional. A typical day of skiing starts out with the Film and Magazine crews at daybreak getting the golden light. Around 10:00 a.m. free skiing starts and regular fun hogs like yourself ski as many runs as they can until around 4:00 p.m. One more Film and Magazine crew session ends the day and the heli's return to base right before sunset. When sunlight conditions are not perfect for filming or taking photos the media circus hims and haws about the weather and the day is all about free skiing and boarding deep alaska pow. Private heli's are also available by the week.
