0" 24" Powder  reported: 12/18/2012 at 4:27 AM EST by JeffPorter

Groomed, Tracked, Untracked, Thin, Thin Spots, Rocky Spots, Bare Spots, Uncrowded

Went to Powderhorn on Sunday 12/16/12 for the first turns of the season and was happy to see what the last storm had left in the way of new snow. Mgt has been working hard on snow making and the blue runs had good coverage with a few bare spots that should go away with the next big storm on Tuesday night. They opened the west end at 2pm Sunday and we went over to sample the goods and they were good indeed with boot top to knee deep freshies all over the place. Redeye, Snowcloud and Tenderfoot were the only runs open but again they are calling for 1-2 feet of new tonight and Weds so more should open soon. Wasn't thrilled to see the beer card price go from $11 last year to $25 this year, guess that's what happens when someone from Vail buys the local hill.At least they are having live music every Sat/Sun which is nice. More weds after the big storm.
0" 30" Hard Pack  reported: 01/15/2012 at 7:00 AM EST by Jeff Porter

Groomed, Tracked, Skied Off, Refrozen, Sun-Baked, Wind-Packed, Bullet-Proof, Trashed, Thin, Thin Spots, Icy Spots, Rocky Spots, Bare Spots, Uncrowded, Calm, Sunny, Making Snow

Went up to Powderhorn Friday the 13th for a little exercise, nice day but like everwhere else in the west we need snow, big time. May have to stage an Ullr fest to please the snow gods, although they seem to think a small front may come though tonight(Sunday) and leave a few inches of new. It was a very nice sunny day with temps in the high 30's to low 40's. They are doing a good job of grooming what they do have, but there are lots of unmarked obstacles, mostly rocks or brush. The edges of most runs are in pretty good shape and overall it was a nice day. I did have my skiis tuned up last week and that made a big difference in edging on the hard pack. Planning on going up tomorrow, MLK day and will report again. JP
11" 39" Powder  reported: 12/23/2011 at 5:19 AM EST by Jeff Porter

Groomed, Tracked, Untracked, Deep, Thin Spots, Rocky Spots, Uncrowded, Calm, Sunny

Made it up to Powderhorn Friday 12/16 and Sunday 12/18 and it was great to get back on the boards after a long summer layoff. A double hit storm on Tues and Weds, took conditions from 4 runs open to all BUT 4 runs open. Probabaly the second best opening conditions I've seen in the 12 years I've been in the Grand Valley. Sunday was the warmest conditions any of us could remember for a December ski day with people sitting on the new deck sunning themselves with a cold beer in hand. Conditions were pretty good in most places with some rocks and brush showing thru on the Black runs that don't get groomed. They have had 11 more inches on the 21st of Dec. and the folks I talked to said it was skiing great. The new mangement has been doing a good job making snow and all the intermediate and beginner terrain was in great shape. Terrain park features are starting to spring up all over. The beer card is back for another year, $11 get you a glass and $1 off everytime you get a draft. Like last ye
