1" 0" Frozen Powder  reported: 01/14/2015 at 6:00 AM EST by A Cera

Groomed

The PA areas have had their challanges this winter however Seven Springs groomers are doing a wonderful job with making snow by the truckloads and are able to move it around where needed! The temps dropped slow enough to allow groomer to grind it up while the new snow was falling. Some areas were packed powder and some areas had some corn like granulars, not bad. Thank you for an awesome time!

Groomed, Thin Spots, Icy Spots, Rocky Spots, Uncrowded

No crowds, which is always a good thing. Some slopes were hard packed and well groomed. Moguls quickly being formed on some slopes due to soft, sugar snow. Front face offered the best skiing conditions. Quite a few icy spots on North Face. Gunnar is open, but conditions vary from hard packed to icy to sugar snow. North Face parking lot is free one again. 7Springs was charging 10.00 to park there, but too many complaints resulted in a change of heart.

This has been a rough start to the 2011-2012 ski season in PA but I was pleased with what was available under sub-par conditions. The slopes that were open had plenty of ski-able terrain and were in relatively good condition. The on-off rain throughout the day didn't help much but the snow held up and hopefully with the impending weather the conditions will continue to improve. As expected the crowds were small and the lift lines non-existent. Good for maximizing runs, not as good for resort profitability. The snow-making crews appear to have done a good job with limited cooperation from Mother Nature. I appreciate the discounted ticket prices for limited mountain access. I refuse to go to places charging full price for minimal mountain access.

Groomed, Thin Spots, Rocky Spots, Bare Spots, Uncrowded, Windy, Rainy

No crowds today! A few slopes on North Face open, but very thin covering. Front Face slopes in much better shape--the ones that are open. Light rain was on and off while we were there during the day. Pretty good day considering the bad start to winter. If you race Nastar, the unlimited runs have increased in price from 10.00 to 15.00. Egads!
