Refrozen

Why was there no checkbox for chunks of frozen icy snow and deep tracks that caught and threw skis? Was disappointed with my first visit here, esp. after high recommendations. Lodge was crowded with middle schoolers though there was no wait at the lift...likely because the conditions were so bad. Word was they had groomed but the snow was too wet so...it really was awful. Intense focus needed to not get thrown by a death cookie or gorges in the snow. The ungroomed stuff was bad, too...powder covered by a crust. Impossible to steer skis in, and I'm an advanced skier. Weather wasn't super either--gray skies and spitting styrofoam pellets.

Groomed, Thin Spots, Uncrowded, Sunny

Beautiful weekend to closeout January 2012 with the southeastern exposure absorbing the radiant heat. The midweek snowfall of 8", with breakable crust, was a much needed gift that yieldied excellent groomed runs and allowed for a few more upper mountain all natural snowtrails to open. These freshly openned trails skied well despite a few thin spots. More terrain park features were accessible with the additional trail count. Kudos to Jeff Knight for laying down the exceptional morning cordroy and to the management for taking steps to improve lodge seating and bag stowage issues.

Groomed, Thin, Uncrowded, Sunny

Conditions continue to improve on the mountain with lift service to the summit. Limited terrain open yet it serves up good groomed coverage with some ungroomed areas for the adventurous types. Look for more trails to open with additional natural snow as they are close to openning. Minimal traffic in glades and natural snow areas with a strong recomendation for rock skis off piste. Terrain park features continue to be added for the kids entertainment. Novice area is in beautiful shape. Blowing snow in tubing park. Issues continue in the lodge with no bag storage and skiers (alpine and Nordic alike) claiming tables for the day by leaving gear unattended. This problem is magnified on race event days with no management oversight to maintain order. Think Snow!!!

Bullet-Proof, Thin Spots

Tbar just openned, so still no summit chair operating. Need some natural snow to help conditions and aid in openning more terrain. Nice little family friendly mountain but too much emphisis on Xcountry events. Sadly for Alpine skiers, there's more manmade snow in the woods than on the mountain.
