I've been going to Welch for the past 4 years. It's a great place for hanging out with friends or taking younger siblings out for a night. The snow is great when Welch makes it & they've opened a new "back bowl" area for season pass holders! I highly recommend Welch!

It's worth the extra 5 minute drive time

Every year, if I have to get out because I'm craving some runs, this is where I go.

Afton gets too crowded. Runs are all straight.

On a typical weekend at Welch, I'm hitting groomed runs until noon, and after that, the runs are still good with minimal lines. Plus the way the runs are set up at angles, you feel like you actually get some time in on the run.

In addition, they have it set up for the beginner's on one side of the hill and for those who like the steep drops and intermediate runs on the other. They also have put their terrain park in front of the main chalet.

I made it out on 2/26 right after 9 inches fell and it was fantastic. No lines. Wide open runs and the conditions were fantastic.

My only beef is the $42 lift tickets. Now if you get off the hill within 4 hours, they'll knock off $5 (they give you a $10 gift card for next time).

But seriously $37 for Midwest skiing is expensive. They need to knock another $5 off.

WIN free ski lift tickets!!
