Blacktail Mountain Reviews

Although Blacktail gets a decent amount of snow it can also get periods of rain which makes it difficult for me to provide a very good review overall. The lakeside climate means conditions can alternate between powder to wet and slushy to ice and snow quality is not very consistent. Blacktail also suffers from a terrible dirt access road, and since the parking lot is at the TOP of the mountain, it's not an easy drive. Blacktail does have outstanding views of Flathead Lake and surrounding mountain ranges however.

Not a fan ... plain and simple. Besides a fairly lengthy drive on a sub par road to the top of the mountain, the road takes skiers and boarders to sub par terrain. Each time I've skied Blacktail it has rained - so I give the area low marks for weather; not to mention it can be quite foggy also. The snow conditions are not the best as it is a bit low in elevation - and rain is never good for snow. The terrain lacks variety, and not so much because of the smaller size of the area, but because the actual mountain itself is lacking in terrain variation. The one plus - it's a cheaper local alternative to Whitefish Mountain.

Blackmail is a great beginner/intermediate ski resort. Family friendly, happy environment for skiing/snowboarding. Hard to beat at only 30 dollars!

This is a wonderful ski resort for the family. The kids programs are excellent, the staff is very friendly and helpful and the price is good. We have been skiing here for the last 3 years with our 4 children and have nothing but good things to say. Blacktail is not as crowed as some other resorts so it makes for nice relaxing skiing.
