We're a unique family-owned southern Vermont bike and Nordic ski shop specializing in bicycles and cross-country skiing and telemark, bike fitting, sales, service, repairs and rentals for more than 35 years. We can outfit you with what you need, from beginner ski packages and expert racing and touring skis. Visiting the area? We can rent skis or snowshoes, or outfit your entire family with bikes - and send you off with maps and great cycling routes.
We carry Specialized, Jamis, and Guru bicycles; Madshus, Fischer, Atomic, Salomon and Karhu crosscountry skis; Alpina, Karhu, Salomon, Atomic and Fischer boots; G3, K2, and Black Diamond telemark skis; Crispi, Garmont, Scarpa and Black Diamond tele boots; a full range of Ibex wool clothing, plus Isis, Pearl Izumi, Craft, Swix, Mountain Hardware and more. World class bike riding and cross country skiing surrounds this rustic shop, supported by an active cycling and skiing community that hosts events that range from cyclocross and mountain bike races and clinics to weekly adult and kid's rides and scenic tours - all right out our front door.
What We Specialize In
West Hill Shop has sold bicycles, nordic skis, and everything related in Putney, Vermont, since 1971, when Neil Quinn founded the shop (along with three guys named Bob and their spouses). When Neil decided to retire, Diny and Jim Sweitzer of Putney bought the shop in 2004 because they wanted to have more fun at work - and they are!
Today the West Hill Shop continues as a low-key, friendly source for bikes, equipment, service, rentals, advice, good places to ride and cross-country ski, racing results, touring information, snow conditions, and much more, with superb mechanics, professional bike fitters and ski-tuners. Our staff has years of experience at wrenching, tuning XC skis, matching cyclists with the right bike, finding the right brake pads or picking the perfect wax.
