Nice family area
Posted on 01/03/2013 by: Anonymous

Skied here first time on 12/27/12 as part of a 5 area "tour" of WI and MN areas. Nice layout and excellent snow. I'm not a border, but terrain parks looked to be very entertaining for them. Biggest downfall is the use of rope tows for terrain parks. Tows were also the only access to a nice, steep face that I would have skied more except I wasn't willing to sacrifice my gloves. They should at least install handle tows or a T-bar if not a chair on the far left. Other than that, the run layout gives you lots of options for getting down off of each lift even though the overall verticle is rather short. All of the staff were extremely friendly. They certainly make the most of what they have.

Who doesn't want to see a troll?

Fun place to go for a day of skiing. If you're lucky, you may even see the little leprechaun. Or I guess it's a troll!!

Go if you live nearby, otherwise don't waste the trip.

Trollhaugen is pretty blah in my book. If you don't do the terrain park thing, there isn't much for the intermediate/advanced skier/boarder to like here. It only has a 260' vertical drop so it takes about 3 seconds to ride down the hill, then another 15 mins to ride the lift back up. Wild Mountain isn't great, but it sure beats Trollhaugen any day.

Great Layout & Facilities!!!
Posted on 11/17/2010 by: Sarah

The hills provide plenty of variety for all skill levels and the snowboard parks are unbeleivable!!! You can tell a lot of time and pride are put into the skiing AND snowboarding areas:) The lodge is spacious, not cramped like some resorts. The entertainment [live music] and beautiful bar/lounge area make you feel like you're out west in a 5 star resort with the large windows and deck overlooking the mountain, fireplaces, and loft. A fun place to go even if you don't ski!!! A family friendly place with quality entertainment facilities for grown-ups too:) One of my favorite Mid-west resorts, by far....

Getting better, but...
Posted on 12/02/2009 by: Anonymous

They have made a few changes in the past year, some good, some not, some still waiting. The good - They remodeled their ski shop! Given the fact that the other ski area nearby doesn't really even have a shop at all, this wasn't on the top of my list for change, but they did do a good job. The bad - they did away with their $50 lesson/lift/rental package. It's still a great place to learn, just not such a cheep place to do it. The stuff that still needs help - they could really us more space in the chalet downstairs. It's a zoo on weekends.

Friday nights 'til 3 a.m.!
Posted on 03/04/2009 by: Anonymous

Friday nights at the Troll are the best! You can ride for cheap, the hill's not crowded, they have fires going, if you want to warm up, the drinks in the bar are cheap, and there is live music! No cover! Bands from the Twin Cities, nice local people, what more could you want? There are cheap motels in Dresser, so you don't have to drive home. I live in St. Paul, can work a full day, go up to the Troll on a Friday, and get in a fun night of snowboarding/music/friends. Nice!

Night life up at Trollhaugen
Posted on 03/03/2009 by: Jason

If you don't know of any good ski hills to go to give Trollhaugen a try. My friends and I live in Elk River Mn and we drive there almost twice a week just to go snowboarding. There night life is just amazing. They have a bar up at the top of the hill with live bands it seems every night. Thurs day nights are the best because they only charge you half price from 10 pm to 3 am.

Always great grooming! Never icy
Posted on 01/15/2009 by: Anonymous

I have skied all the metro area hills and due to humidity, temperature swings, & sunny conditions, the rest get icy sometimes but with their east exposure and great groomers, Trollhaugen always keeps the hills & snow in great condition. I tip my hat to the team!!!

Yes, it's over in Wisconsin but it is as close or closer to my house (north Twin Cities metro) than the others, even Wild

Awesome, family friendly place to go
Posted on 01/27/2008 by: Anonymous

I love going to Trollhaugen with my kids. The instructors are great, the food is fairly good and reasonably priced. It's small enough to take my kids, and not worry about them getting lost, but yet big enough for a nice challenge. The ski school was awesome!!!!

Family fun close to metro areas
Posted on 12/12/2007 by: Anonymous

Located only 1 hour from the Twin Cities metro it's a great place for the whole family to have fun on the snow.

A decent selection of downhill runs for every ability (But this is Minnesota, not the Rockies - even the black diamonds are not too challenging), groomed x-country trails and snow tubing. Lots of young snowboarders here, but it's a family friendly environment.

Lift ticket prices are reasonable and they have THE best season pass prices if you by in March for the following year.

The lower level chalet can be a ZOO, but up in the cafe it's always good food with elbow room. The folks in the store are very helpful and their prices are very competitive.

It's not fancy, but if you are looking for good sking/boarding without driving hours or spending lots, this is the place.

Chalet and service areas need renovating
Posted on 02/20/2007 by: Anonymous

The chalet and around needs an overhaul (cleaning better would do for the rest of the season). It would be nice for the lounge to be a little brighter and less smoke-smelling (perhaps also enforce the no-under-21s policy). What is supposed to be warm food should be warm.
