Our trails wind through forested valleys and cross bridges over Essex Creek. One kilometer is lit for night skiing. There is a walking bridge that takes you conveniently over the railroad tracks and to our trails. Each early morning the groomers are out making our trails perfect for the day. The valley that the Izaak Walton Inn sits in is known as a snow belt in our area. On the norm we can have a foot more snow than just a few miles down the road.From groomed tracks to fresh tracks and animal tracks to train tracks, the Izaak Walton Inn offers a unique combination of winter vacation experiences. Stay in a cozy historic railroad hotel on the edge of Glacier National Park. Enjoy 33km of skate and classic groomed trails, a night ski trail, and guided ski and snowshoe tours into Glacier Park's backcountry. Comfortable trailside cabooses are a popular lodging option. For the complete railroad-themed vacation you can travel here on Amtrak. Services and amenities include our Dining Car restaurant; PSIA lessons and ski and snowshoe rentals for the whole family; pulk rentals, a Finnish sauna; game room; ice skating pavilion ;car rentals. Students rave about lessons at the Inn. PSIA-certified instructors offer lessons for all ages and abilities in classic, skate, and telemark/backcountry techniques. $45/hour for private. $30 per person for a 1.5 hour two-person lesson. $20 per person for 1.5 hours for groups of three or more. We are always upgrading our facility. We have added 6 cabins near our caboose cabins. The cabins sleep up to 4 people and have kitchenettes and private bathrooms. We recently purchased a new groomer of top quality to keep our trails smooth and perfect. All rooms have private bathrooms. Rooms are quaintly decorated in railroad memorabilia, with a warm wood finish in each room. We have an outdoor pavilion that is available for weddings for up to 300 people and is converted into a Ice Skating rink in the winter. This facility is complete with excellent lighting and sound system.Dining
Our Dining Car restaurant is open from 7am until 8pm. The Half-Way House cafe is located a mile away near the intersection of our Middlefork Ski trail and highway 2.Bars and Nightlife
At The Izaak Walton Inn we have a classic lounge called "The Flagstop Bar" complete with a family style room filled with ski and railroad memorabilia including a vintage Juke Box that plays "45's". Complete with a pool table, ping pong table, and free wireless internet. The bar has an old train that runs the complete length of the counter and has more business cards than you can count. Our remote location puts us 30 miles away from any other even comparable lodging facility. Once again we never close so when other lodging and motel facilities close for the off-season we stay open for the guests passing through Glacier National Park on US Hwy 2 or coming by on Amtrak. The nearest motel style of lodging is located in either West Glacier or East Glacier.Other Recreation Nearby
Our nearby recreation is unbelievable. We have Glacier National Park out our front door and the Great Bear/Bob Marshall Wilderness out our back door. US Hwy 2, which we are located off of, is open all winter and crosses the Continental Divide 17 miles east of here. This highway runs along the Middlefork of the Flathead River and the southern boundary of Glacier Park. The terrain for cross country skiing, snowshoeing and backcountry skiing is practically limitless.Directions to Izaak Walton Inn
