More About Palmquist's Farm

About

Step outside your cabin, strap on your skis, and glide onto one of the 20 miles of ski trails on Palmquist Farm that will take you through some of Wisconsin's most remote and beautiful forests and back country. You'll glide through maple groves and cedar swamps, up hardwood ridges and into the Tiaga ski trail north of "The Farm." Try the 24-hour, lighted trail for a soft and peaceful after-dinner or before-bed ski. You'll find our trails very quiet with low traffic, so you can ski at your own time and pace. Our trails range from beginner to intermediate level in difficulty which makes them the perfect place to learn cross country skiing for the first time, teach your child, or come back to the sport you used to love. Our trails are groomed for skating and classical skiing by our state-of-the-art Pisten Bully groomer. Well-behaved dogs are also welcome.

Greetings from "The Farm" located on the edge of the wilderness in the Northwoods of Wisconsin! Our 800-acre ranch straddles the Somo River and has been a working beef, buffalo, deer, and tree farm for four generations although our primary passion is great Finnish hospitality that goes back nearly 110 years. At "The Farm" you can escape to the country and relax, enjoy our beautiful, rural surroundings, eat our amazing Finnish meals, cross-country ski, ride your horse, hike, hunt, spend time with family or friends, take a Finnish sauna, go on a sleigh ride, or a host of other activities. You'll also enjoy our comfortable, cottage-like accommodations with modern amenities and beautiful brick wood-burning fireplaces. There are no strangers at "The Farm," only friends you haven't met yet. We look forward to your visit, and don’t forget to take a look at our Blog to see what’s happening at “The Farm!”

Ski Lessons

We offer ski rental so don't let a lack of equipment stop you from enjoying the beautiful outdoors. We also rent Finnish pulks, small lightweight sleds that adults can harness around their waists to pull small children on the ski trails.

Dining

At Palmquist Farm, you will enjoy delicious home-cooked, from scratch meals. At “The Farm,” you will not run into anything condensed or from a box. Whether it be family style or served on our antique buffets in the Farmhouse kitchen or in the lodge, our meals are something you’ll be craving long after your stay is over. Our meals are nutritious and well-balanced with a variety of meats, soups, vegetables, salads, and desserts, featuring some special Finnish dishes including "The Farm's" award-winning creamed rice and raspberry sauce, oven pancakes with pure Maple Syrup, and Finnish whole wheat bread. We also accommodate vegetarian and special diets. For those picky kids, peanut butter and jelly is available at every meal when requested.

Bars and Nightlife

We have a Saturday night sing-a-long and talent show. The Wisconsin Concrete Park is a folk-art collection of cement and glass statues. There is also a logging museum in Rhinelander and dinner theaters and horseback riding, go-carts, miniature golf in Minocqua. In Tomahawk, enjoy a water ski show. All these small towns have gift and antique shops that are enjoyable for browsing. You can canoe or kayak the famous Flambeau River or one of the numerous other streams and lakes within easy driving distance. There are many fine golf courses in our area. Every year, there is a large Harley Davidson Motorcycle Rally in Tomahawk the second weekend in September.

Lodging, Hotels, and Condos

All of our accommodations are cottage-like in design, filled with antiques and wood architecture, and contain modern amenities, brick wood-burning fireplaces, and comfortable, private atmospheres. When you come, bring your swim suit so you can steam away your stress in our authentic wood-fired Finnish sauna, available free to all of our overnight guests. Each cabin also includes a coffee maker with free coffee, hot chocolate, and tea, a microwave, and a refrigerator.
