About North Highlands Nordic Center
Grooming Schedule: Daily by Pisten Bulley 100 grooming tractor
Number of Trails: One main trail with three satellite loops leading off main trail, totaling 14-16 kilometers when completely groomed
Ability-rating: 6 km Easiest, 5 km More Difficult, 3 km Most Difficult
Note that an additional 2 km of intermediate-advanced trail is groomed rarely.
Services available: Instruction, rentals, indoor washrooms, waxing and warming room, snacks, and great hospitality. Trails open 7 days a week 9-5. Ski room open 6 days a week 9:30 – 4:30 North Highlands Nordic was founded in 1977 by a small group of enthusiastic cross-country skiers who shared a love of winter and the splendid scenery in the Northeast Highlands Area of Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia.
From humble beginnings of skiing on the ungroomed trails North Highlands Nordic has developed a very high-class facility and trail system in the Village of Cape North. We operate out of a heated waxing/warm-up/ski rental room in the Cape North Community Centre. A trail network of 17 km of mechanically groomed and tilled by a Pisten Bully grooming tractor offer panoramic views of some of Atlantic Canada’s best scenery.
North Highlands Nordic is proud to have hosted any number of major national and regional ski races including the 1987 Canada Winter Games, 1989 Canadian Junior Nationals, and the 1986, 1987, 1994 and 1998 Atlantic Championships. We have hosted numerous Loppets and the Nova Scotia Provincials Championships since 1989.
