More About North Bay Nordic Ski Club
About
A total of 55 km of trails are available in a loop upon loop system, where all trails branch off from one common trail. There are 7 individual trails ranging from 1.3 km to 18 km. Located just 10 minutes out of North Bay, the longer trails are in a remote near-wilderness setting and feature challenging vertical climbs and descents. The inner trails are flatter and gentler. All trails except one are groomed for both skate and classic technique. Our grooming equipment includes 3 Bombardier Alpine snowmobiles and a Pisten Bully 100 snow groomer. The outer 9 km of the 18 km Green trail is double track set for classic skiing only.North Bay Nordic is the centre of cross-country skiing in the Northeastern Ontario region. Our facility features the best trail system in Ontario plus a warm and friendly clubhouse with snackbar, ski rentals, change facilities, and washrooms. There is also a separate waxing room.
North Bay Nordic is a not-for-profit incorporated business administered by a volunteer Board of Directors. Our membership in 2005 was over 800, and we encourage family memberships. Many hundreds of visiting skiers pay day fees. We encourage school participation and we host a number of elementary school and secondary school events. Our annual loppet weekend is slated for Feb. 25 and 26, 2006. North Bay Nordic has been the site of many high-level competitions including Ontario Winter Games, 1989; Canaian Masters 1992; OFSAA 1996 and 1997; Ontario Championships and Canadian Masters Championships, 2000; Ontario University OUAA Championships, 2004 and 2005.
