More About National Forest Lodge

About

Enjoy 30km of remote, quiet cross country ski trails winding through 2,000 acres of Superior National Forest with direct access from your cabin. Thanks to being located at the top of the continental divide, average annual snowfall of 8 feet translates to great skiing from December through March. Moderate elevation changes allow skiers of all ages and skill levels to enjoy the "Isabella Pine Belt". The area is off limits to snowmobiles so our guests can truly experience the quiet beauty of this remote area.

The experience of skiing through the “Big Pines” at National Forest Lodge can be found in few other places… picture a brilliant blue sky, towering red and white pines blanketed in heavy snow. Moose, deer and wolf tracks are common sightings along the trails, and the lucky skier may even catch a glimpse of one.

Located south of Hwy 1 is a snowshoe trail area. These trails offer yet another winter wilderness adventure. Ski trails require skier to have a Minnesota Ski Pass.

National Forest Lodge has been a cross country skiing and snowshoeing destination resort in Northern Minnesota since the development of this remote area of the Superior National Forest. It's a remote, quiet setting only half an hour from Lake Superior's North Shore.

Beautiful, quiet cross country ski and snowshoe trails wind through 2,000 acres of the Superior National Forest. Thanks to being located at the top of the continental divide, snow comes early in the season and stays late, making for excellent conditions well into March.

Cozy, warm cabins with a charm all their own are nestled in the towering pines of the forest and provide the perfect place to settle into after a day on the trails! National Forest Lodge offers a unique winter get-away of great cross country skiing and snowshoeing, hearty food, and friendly hospitality.
