About Copper Mountain

Thirty-five years ago a guy named Chuck Lewis looked at an unassuming mountainside with vision and conviction. He took one look at the current site of Copper and told his friends, “I don’t care how everyone else does it, were not everyone else,” and he meant it. He negotiated a deal to purchase 280 acres at the base and worked with the Forest Service to establish parameters and guidelines for the ski area. Chuck was both a renegade and a visionary. Today, Chuck’s dream is alive and well. As stated in a 1969 US Forest Service report, “if there were a mountain that had terrain for skiing it would be Copper Mountain. It is the most nearly perfect ski mountain in the U.S.” Over the years, new lifts were added and Copper grew to its current size of 2,465 acres. What was once a sleepy little day ski area is now one of Colorado's premier year-round destination resorts. In 1997, the resort was purchased by Intrawest - a worldwide leader in resort operations and real estate development.

What's New This Season at Copper Mountain

Still in it's first year of operation and like nothing else in the world, Woodward at Copper is the first indoor/outdoor ski and snowboard camp on the planet with a focus on terrain park and pipe progression. The 20,000 sq ft Woodward at Copper Barn gives campers access to Snowflex® jumps, foam pits, a spring floor, trampolines and indoor skateboard features. This winter, Woodward at Copper will offer Winter Camp Days, One Hit Wonder Sessions, Drop-In Sessions and Skate only sessions, in addition to Private Lessons. Make sure to sign up for a weeklong summer camp, giving campers access to Colorado’s only summer terrain park.
