Sweet southern snow-no crowds 12/19/2013 by: Anonymous An all around great ski area and a surprise for anyone thinking there is no snow in Arizona. Sunrise has had season after season of great snow. High speed quad to the top, and plenty of space on the three separate mountains, Great intermediate mt.

Wow just wow. For such a small looking place it's really great 01/13/2013 by: Chris Finely had a chance to get out of New Mexico again. And let me say I'm very glad I did. This place is sweet. The runs are big lots of space to yourself. Lots of different runs. Will come back again hopefully soon!

Great place to go for a fun day. 11/28/2012 by: Ed Ok, Sunrise is not Vail, Tahoe or aspen. It is not trying to be. It is a solid resort to get runs in and practice at reasonable rates. It is close by for Az residents and does not get much tourist activity. It is as big as many known resorts. Tends to get more packed powder to icy. Back east people should be right at home. If you are in the valley, the bus tours are the way to go. Action Sports is my favorite. I give Sunrise a thumbs up.

mother and daughter day 03/20/2012 by: sue food was disappointing at the ski resort on this trip.....in pinetop had some good italian food though. Had a great 2 day trip with my 16 year old daughter. She's not a huge ski fan but the weather and conditions were so great she loved it. Not sure if I've convinced her it's a favorite sport yet but overcame her trip prior where she has such a bad spill she was turned off to the sport. the runs were groomed nicely which made for some good comfortable skiing for her yeah sunrise!

surprise day 03/20/2012 by: sue The day starrted out beautiful and sunny (3/9). Slowly flurries started and by the end of the day a great snow storm!!!!!!!!!!!!! Runs were groomed perfectly. It was a bit cold but the food at midway lodge (indian taco) hit the spot. Staff was friendly as usual. Great day for our outdoor sales meeting!

January 21 02/01/2012 by: Anonymous Went up on the 21st with a bus group from action ski rentals in mesa. Outstanding trip and day. Sunrise had new powder and all the trails open. Not a long wait in any lines. I strongly encourage anyone wanting a one day trip to head to Sunrise. We actual still had powder even after a couple of days from the last snowfall. Just an overall great day. The bus trip is an excellent way to go and allows for resting there and back. We had a great captain and bus driver. Hats off to Action Ski Rentals again.

sunny sunrise 12/05/2011 by: Anonymous sunrise is a sunny volcanic cone, rising like a little snowy mirage above a high desert landscape. Many of us who live too close to the border to even dream skiing, are able to live out our desires by driving to this funky snowy cone. Lifts are slow, but the day and light are long. Midweek is virtually empty on this native run mountain. Thank god for sunrise!

Please let it SNOW over 100" this year! 11/08/2011 by: Rich Begant We that live in Az because of the short drive go to Sunrise or Snowbowl. Great Skiing with a lot of snow of coarse. Sunrise is better because of the 1 fast lift they have to the top. Snow Bowl lift is not so great because it takes like 15-20 minutes to get to the top. That eats into run time. But when tickets are $49 bucks and but 1 get one half off on Tues with a 3 hours drive we cant complain! I sure hope I can afford to take my son to a big boy resort like SteamBoat or something this year. Taking my younger son for his first ski trip this year! Sweet!

Best Value 11/04/2011 by: TucsonJim Rodeo days are for Tucsonans (as our kids get those days off). The drive is good (occasionally foggy) and the plowing is good (one year the road plow left a wall of snow at the resort driveway). Good variety in skiing with a good board run but I wish they left a couple of back trails build moguls like they used to instead of always plowing them flat. Nothing special in the black diamond runs but they're hard enough that I've lost a few toenails. But, the ski area may be the country's best deal for kids and seniors (whose life tickets are free). Rent from Hon-Dah resort as they rent demos (now I wish I hadn't bought skis), charge kids half, and take better care of the equipment (sharper skis). I think the resort is too expensive during weekends / holidays, but there's a lot of other choices within a half hour drive.

Epic Arizona 01/17/2011 by: Anonymous It sure is a wonder that in Arizona, a place I connect with cowboys, can have snow! Last year, in March, Sunrise had an epic snowfall. The road to the mountain was closed for a time because of a lack of plowing. We could barely get in or out of the Sunrise Lodge. That year there were epic powder conditions and we skied up the whole mountain!

Worth the drive!! 01/11/2011 by: Shannon I went last Friday to snowboard.. The drive up is a bit long (4hours) but road conditions were perfect any type of car/truck could have made it easily. The lifts had ZERO wait time and the snow was in great shape. My dad and I were able to go to the back peaks mid afternoon and still hit freshly groomed untouched trails.. Staff was pleasant as always. The food id recommended some fry bread! If the drive is to much you can always look into bus trips for the day -- they run about $89.00 and include your lift ticket.. I have used them too and very happy with that. Beats the heck out of Flag..!!

our local snow miracle 01/03/2011 by: Anonymous It's a miracle that sunrise even has powder to ski in, way down in southern arizona. We live in sw. new mexico and sunrise is our closest mt. We've skied there for 4 years now. The snow is light, the mountain empty, and the slopes surround a perfect volcanic cone-great fall line. Sunrise is a good beginner, intermediate mt. with a couple of steep pitches. Be careful of wild weather, plowing is not the strong point down in the south. Also, lifts a bit funky, old. etc. The place is run by the Apache nation, so its a bit lawless.. We like it that way!!!

Best place to snowboard in Arizona! 10/06/2010 by: Anonymous Living in Arizona, Sunrise is the best moutain to snowboard in the state. It has some back country trails as well as a good park section. This is where I learned and it's also great for intermediate snowboarders. Hopefully we get snow soon because I can't wait for snowboard season!

Great terrain for family skiing 01/29/2010 by: Anonymous Sunrise is perfect for family skiing. There is a wide variety of easy to moderate terrain without huge crowds. Lift tickets are very affordable and offered on half-day Sunday mornings which is nice. The road to/from the ski area is also more easily traversible than some ski resorts.

BEST in Arizona 12/11/2009 by: Brian Parker I grew up skiing here, and now I live in Utah, and I can hang with a lot of Utah skiers. The double blacks there are like the single blacks here, so there is a difficulty level difference, but thanks to Sunrise, there's not a run on these Utah Mountains I can't do. When they have a good snow season like this year has started off, the skiing is great!!! Tons of fun! Two thumbs up! It's the best resort in AZ for sure!

Best Park In Arizona!!! 11/19/2009 by: Anonymous Best place in AZ for boarding. They always have better snowfall than snowbowl. The next closest park would be Brianhead or Crested Butte. Their prices are double the price though!

Best place in AZ 01/27/2009 by: Skinny better snow than snowbowl obviously and the jumps boxes and rails were better than snowbowls last year so i would expect the same for 09...ive only been once this year right after it opened and there was more snow than usual and not busy at all. No park but not surprising since it was the beginning of the season.

Sunrise is Awesome! 01/08/2009 by: Nancy Gust We had such a great time here! I am a new snowboarder and felt like I could manage most of the blues. This is a great family park. My kids love the Day Care facility on site - and Mom does too. I could peak in on my kids anytime and know that they are being cared for. We also had lunch in the lodge. Great food - very ethnic but also all american choices. I loved the chili!! Plan your vacation there. Stay onsite or in a nearby community. There's a lot to see and hopefully it will snow while you're there.

Has a good ski and stay package but... 01/08/2009 by: candyland The customer service was poor and it took along time to get any help. Also they change you for everything and don't tell you. Such as if you get a roll away bed they charge you $25. Also if you book a double bed room you have to specify if you want twin or queen or they will decide for you and charge extra. But the ski was better this year and so far the lifts are great! YEAAHHHHAA

Bomb time at Sunrise 01/05/2009 by: Anonymous The runs where great the whole time I was there. The lifts are fairly slow, but its AZ so what can you expect? The food is way pricey, but after skiing all day you will pay anything for a cheeseburger. Greer is a beautiful place so no arguing about the scenery. I loved skiing here and would def go back again.

great place 12/29/2008 by: Anonymous Great value for a ski hill! Hardly ever crowded, great day lodges with pretty decent food for the size. Could use some help at on-site rental shop and some new runs that could be cut quickly becuase of the space.

Great Local Skiing 12/07/2008 by: Anonymous This is a great local ski resort. The people are friendly and the atmosphere is relaxed. I've spent a couple of very good ski days here - One of the days it was so warm that I skied with my jacket open and no gloves. If you do this, just be sure to remember your sunscreen. Just a few weeks later, it was windy, cold and icy. Both ski days were quite enjoyable. I ski the blue runs and am kind of new to the sport, so I was really happy to find the slopes groomed and well maintained.

Fun for a learner 02/17/2008 by: Anonymous This is the resort that I first learned how to snowboard on. When there are not alot of people its great because there are not to many runs that are extremely hard for a beginner!

What a View 09/01/2007 by: Linda Hogan A few weeks ago we were headed home after staying a few days in a cabin in Greer and decided to visit the ski lift when we saw the signs for it. Of course there wasn't any snow but we did ride the lift to the top and stayed up there for a bit. What a fantastic view that was!! We also did not realize that one could take mountain bikes up to ride down during the summer months. My husband is looking forward to being able to try this at some point and might even be able to talk our daughter into joining him for the ride. The ride back down the mountain was also spectacular - it seemed like you could see forever!
