A week in Val di Fassa, Italy 05/11/2004 by: Stefan Couani My 12-year-old daughter and I spent a week in January 2004 skiing in the Fassa Valley. We were based in Campitello di Fassa, a small town a few kilometres from Canazei. Campitello has a big cable car that goes to Col Rodella, an access point for the Sella Ronda. We booked into a guided one-week package which an Australian company operates - Dolomites Ski Tours. The advantage of this arrangement was that we could negotiate the extensive trails using the knowledge of the guide, and get back home in time. One of the options in the deal was an overnight safari to stay in Rifugio Lagazuoi on top of a mountain. The Dolomites are very well served with cable cars, gondolas and chairs. We also used a horse-drawn rope tow near San Cassiano. In general, the snow was excellent and the weather was good. As Australians, we’re used to poor snow compared to everywhere else, so it was very nice to encounter such consistently good conditions, and good value-for-money.
