Great Local Ski Resort!
Posted on 05/02/2011 by: J Spudman

A great place if you want to ski or board an hour or two from home. The snow conditions are amazing due to a really good snowmaking system and the staff is friendly. Good mix of slopes for all ability levels. Very highly rated ski school. Overall you can't beat it for a backyard resort!

Good conditions

Friday, 1/21 conditions werew good. Bulletproof frozen undernieth, but enough fresh snow on top to give good grip and control. Only one trail closed. Whole mountain had good conditions and was not crowded at all. Short or no lift lines!

Plenty of Bang for the Buck

From the perspective of an advanced skier, Roundtop offers the best mountain experience of the "close in" Balt/DC metro area. Highly visible and friendly mountain safety and ski patrol help keep a lid on recklessness and thereby assure all skiers and riders a fair shot at enjoyment and fun. The facility is well maintained and the terrain is variable and interesting...even challenging in a few places. Kudos to Roundtop for capturing the vibe of a real ski resort. The skier's experience seems foremost in their minds, rather than being just another expensive Playland for unsupervised kids.

Small Mtn Fun
Posted on 01/04/2010 by: Christi Dant

Roundtop does a really nice job of packing a lot of fun into a small mountain. From parking to bathrooms, convenience to skiers is clearly considered. The staff appear to be well-trained and very competent. The lifts run smoothly, the slopes groomed decently, and all services are prompt. We don't rent equipment, so I can't speak to that. We love the flex tickets which means demand is spread out and there is a reduction in wait for tickets. It's clear those managing Roundtop give a lot of consideration to the skier's experience. I was surprised how much fun we found on this smallish mountain. The layout of the mountain aids in keeping beginning skiers clear of the experienced folks to the benefit of all. It's a nice day trip and we all left with tired legs and a smile.

Stand to the side

My family and I went out Saturday late afternoon even though the weather didn't turn out as snowy as we would have liked but the slopes were in pretty good condition considering the weather we have had. We had a pretty decent time except for the teens that were permitted to congregate...especially at the Minuteman lift. Ten to 20 teens standing around, visiting, right in front of the roped entrances. It wouldn't have been that bad if they would move when you were trying to enter the lift, bu no. I could understand those with skies but the girls with just boots or shoes could have easily move to the side. I don't blame this on the kids. They are doing their thing, but the ski patrol or the lift operators really should have kept the entrance cleared for the on coming "skiers & snowboarders". This is also true at the top of Minuteman. There is a difference between snowboarders getting strapped up and kids just hanging out, talking and not allowing those who want to ski, go by.
