|Favorite place to ski
Posted on 02/15/2013 by: Phil Andric
I started my big mountain skiing at Jackson Hole in 1980. It has always been my favorite resort to ski at for the beauty and the terrain. I hadn't skied many places other than Jackson and Snowmass until the 90's where I ventured out to Taos, Vail, Snowbird, and Alta. While all those resorts were great Jackson remained my favorite. In the last 10 years I took an involuntary hiatus from Jackson and I've been all over Tahoe, many other places in Colorado including Telluride, Purgatory, Wolf Creek, Arapahoe Basin, Copper Mountain, Keystone, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, and Winter Park. I've been to a handful more in Utah, Whistler-Blackcomb, Alyeska, Mount Baker, and many others. After finally returning to Jackson it quickly reminded me why it was always my favorite and reinforced that it is my favorite still. It's the hardcore riders paradise. I love Jackson Hole.

The idiot who left the review of 2/28/06 probably would complain if you handed him a million dollars. I just got back from skiing Jackson Hole and it was excellent. Top notch. All kinds of steep powder runs. WOW! The wimp no doubt did not have the balls to even take the tram to the top so he could at least say he looked down into Corbet's. I dropped into Corbet's and it was something I will never forget. There was no crowd there looking down in at the top. Just my brother and two college aged brothers from Pittsburg, on snowboards. The kids joined me but my bro opted to ski around. I imagine the dope who wrote that review would have shit his pants if he had tried it. The rest of the mountain was also great. The lifts are not all super quads that go like hell I'll agree, but what did he expect. On a scale of 1 to 10, I'll give it a TEN.

|They believe their own hype

I had great expectations for Jackson Hole, both the town and the mountain, but they went unmet. The conditions at the end of February, 2006 were spring-like, w/slush on lower slopes. The locals told me to avoid the Hobacks due to poor conditions. My actual snow-to-snow time using the tram on Fri afternoon was 1.5 HOURS! What a waste! Additional time-wasters are rarity of high-speed lifts. Sublette and Thunde liftsr serve great terrain, but they're slow. Sublette was closed two of four days due to wind, tho it was calm everywhere else I skied those days. This made lift lines long even mid-week. There were long traverses to get to parts of the mountain, but at least they were made with decent pitch to avoid poling. The town is "new-historic" - more Hollywood hype than real history. There are art galleries and tee-shirt shops. I'm mad I missed the in-town Snow King resort, as I hear they're uncrowded and a great value. It looked great to me on my close drive-by.
