Moonlight Basin Terrain

Moonlight Basin, located just an hour south of Bozeman in Big Sky, Montana, opened for skiing in 2003 as the first destination ski resort in the U.S. in 20 years. Moonlight Basin has grown into a first-class, year-round destination resort. Served by seven lifts, including Montana’s only high-speed six-person chairlift, skiing at Moonlight Basin offers 90+ mapped trails, chutes, bowls and glades – making more than 1,900 acres of skiing.

With this much skiing, you'll be hard pressed to find a crowd. Plus, the terrain’s northerly exposure ensures the more than 400 inches of powder that falls each year stays light and dry. Moonlight Basin and neighboring Big Sky Resort interconnect to create the Biggest Skiing in America®, providing skiers and riders seamless access to 5,512 acres of world class skiable terrain. That's why Moonlight is home to the Biggest Skiing In America!!!!

What's New This Season at Moonlight Basin

This summer we expanded and regraded our beginner terrain off of the Derringer Lift, build new snow fence at the top of the Headwaters Bowl to improve conditions and help open this terrain earlier, and built one new run. Named "Fly Rock Gully" after the old mining term, this new run features fun natural banked turns, rolls, and some cultivated natural rock drops!
