Best grooming
Posted on 12/27/2012 by: Karen

I've got to hand it to Wild Mountain. Their runs may not be the longest but the skiing is always great because of the fantastic grooming job they do. Plus they make snow like crazy starting in November and keep making snow all winter long.

Decent ski/snowboard resort close to the Twin Cities
Posted on 12/31/2010 by: Josh

Great terrain park, not a lot of elevation, but hey its Minnesota. Wild Mountain is a lot better then nearby Trollhaugen (across the river in Wisconsin) because they have more lifts and more runs. The lift tickets are a little overpriced in my opinion. $41 for an all day pass? You could pay a few more bucks to ride Lutsen.

Wild Mountain has great amenities. They are the first to open almost every year in MN and are the first to be 100% open again in 2010.

There were runs that were not lit at all, very dangerous. Significant other ran into water pipe and smashed his face up pretty good. He is an expert skiing, 23 yrs experience this should not have happened. Management could not tell me how they were going to remedy the situation so it wouldn't happen to anyone else.

In wild there is a slope called the wall and that's how i got so good in snowboarding..... If i hadn't gone on there i wouldn't have the courage right now to do rails jumps or other things.... This place is great and one of the best to learn how to snowboard and ski, but also to challenge your snowboarding and skiing skills.

Best Early Season Skiing in the area
Posted on 11/26/2008 by: Anonymous

Wild Mountain has some of the best snow making in MN. that means when they open it's not with just a run or two until the real snow falls. With the help of cold nights they've had 2/3 of their runs open before Thanksgiving! They are well usited for intermediate skiers/snowboarders. They have some nice long green runs that have a bit of challenge to them so beginners will either progress nicely or move down to easier ski area in the region.

The lodge is much nicer than some in the area, even if they aren't always strick about people keeping their junk out of the restaurant upstairs (rude skiers take note - you are not the only one who wants a seat...). There's lots of storage area downstairs, a good $1 corral system. Plan ahead and get your season pass in March and you'll have one of the best deals around.

A good time for the family

Well run ski area with runs that are a bit longer than the usual 3 minute runs we have here in MN. Much nicer and better maintained lodge than it's local competition. Excellent staff. Daily price is a little high for what you get, but their pre-season season pass sale is deal. I like the semi wooded blue and green runs. You can pretend you are at a western resort, at least for a little while. The terrain park is nice, but a little advanced for folks newer to freestyle. The day we were there they did have a few elements on a bunny hill (not sure if that's normal or an end of season accomodation) so that worked well for us. The lifts could use a little TLC - pretty rough seats need some new boards. Kind of hard getting on and off when you get stuck to the splinters. All in all a good place for families (or adults during the week), lots of room to stash your stuff and eat your food - just remeber to read the signs and keep your equipment piles and picnics OUT of the restaurant.

Great early season conditions. All runs and lifts were open on 12-9. Grooming was very good and no icy spots were found.

Friendly people make this a great place to go. The chair lift operators are extra thoughtful with small skiers and make it a safe place to learn how to get on a chair lift. Would like to see the snowboarders try to get more than 2 on a quad lift to speed up the lines
