Need to go a few more times to fully appreciate
Posted on 03/04/2009 by: Paul

First time a Powder Mountain. Went on a weekday at the end of January. The staff was friendly, the food was cafeteria style, but was quite good and reasonably priced; lift lines were virtually non-existent. We mainly skied greens/blues. The snow was great, trails were well groomed. The layout is unique in that you can end up on cat trails to move from one part of the mountain to another; those couple runs were quite boring. The only other downside we encountered was that a thick fog rolled in early afternoon and you literally could not see more than about 5 feet which was quite eerie, so it unfortunately cut our day short. We did not get to explore the mountain quite as much as we would have liked, but it is huge, the scenery is beautiful, and the areas we did ski were great. Powder needs to be visited more than once to explore and appreciate.

My New Favorite Ski Area
Posted on 03/01/2009 by: Kathy Peironnet

I recently brought a group of 12 to Powder Mountain from the Kansas City Ski Club. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by the warm, friendly staff who then directed us to the lodge at mid-mountain for a introductory briefing. They had a wonderful , complimentary guide, named George, who led us all over the mountain so we could become acquainted with all of the terrain available to us. We had lunch at the base, which included homemade selections. The rental shop right next door was accommodating and reasonable. The vistas and skiable acres at Powder Mountain were amazing, but so was the staff! I felt as though I'd stepped back in time to a day of skiing at a family-owned and operated ski area. The sense that they were glad that we were there will remain with me always. I plan to return there to ski next year. I highly recommend Powder Mountain.

I like skiing at Powder Mountain rather than Snow Basin because their are less people at the lift lines, more open terrain for skiing, prices are less expensive, and it has the local, small flavor without the BIG resort mentality.
